Intuous4 Problem

Hello everyone, new here but I have a feeling I'll be quite the regular, looks like I have much to learn in here.

Anyway I have a problem, bought an intuous4 today (small), running with photoshop CS5 in Windows7. Right out the gate everything seems great, except for one little thing. When using the brush tool and laying down multiple strokes it will randomly lay down one thick stroke as if that stroke turned off the pressure sensitivity and was done with the mouse. I've been working on trying to find a pattern or see if im clicking something by accident but its completely random. It's happening quite a bit so its not something I can ignore. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!!

Welcome to PSG Vargas.
It's tough to say what the problem could be since you said it will "randomly lay down one thick stroke".

1.You can try uninstalling and reinstalling the Wacom drivers.

2.Update your video driver

3.Delete your preferences file.
Start Photoshop and immediately hold down Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows)
or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS X).
Then, click Yes to the message, "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file?"

4.Disable OpenGL Drawing http://www.photoshopgurus.com/forum/photoshop-newbies/35906-frustrating-problem.html

I think this is a Photoshop issue NOT the tablet, as i have experienced the same thing using both tablet and mouse, very random but it has happened.
Reason i have no idea, but at least your not alone mate.

Thanks for the replies guys, I looked at other forums for help and found one that called it "line drag", also the weird thing is that I have been using a bamboo tablet for a while before i got the intuous and that never happened with the bamboo so its weird that the higher end model would have the issue and not the lower end one.

Hey guys Im back again with another issue lol I noticed that both the Bamboo I own and the intuous4 have something in common. When I'm in eraser tool mode they both stay in pressure sensitive mode even if I check off the "shape dynamics" box in the brush palette. I've even gone into the "Shape dynamics" tab to turn "pen pressure" to the "off" mode and tried "locking" it to stay that way but sure enough when I put pen to tablet in eraser mode again it reverts back to pressure sensitive again.

In school I use one of the older gen bamboos and you can switch back to pressure mode or off it at will so I've gotten used to being able to do that. Its very nice being able to turn off the pressure mode in eraser because your line erasing is much more precise and predictable which is very important for my since I try doing the tightest work possible.

I have to presume you should be able to do this with older models or the option to turn off the pen pressure wouldn't be there to begin with. Like usual any help or advise would be hugely appreciated guys, thank you!

Oh and FYI, when I turn off the pressure in brush mode it works just fine its just the eraser tool I have issues with.

This is a very timely post, Vargas. I'm in the decision making process right now for a pen tablet. Aside from the fact that I will get a Wacom I'm not sure whether to go with the more expensive (larger) model. I'm not a professional graphic artist so I can't really justify the Intuos unless it's really that much better. Is it?
