Installing/using new brushes, returning to default

Isn't it great when you find new brushes? Isn't it great when you actually get them installed? Isn't it also great when you are worried about how to get back to default brushes when you're done using the new ones? lol Yeah, I'm still new to the Photoshop thing, and still have a lot to figure out. So, can anyone tell me how to use the new brushes I've downloaded, and also how to get back to the default brushes? Thanks in advance. :)
 
Is this what you mean? Grab them from wherever you saved them with this menu in *load brushes*. When you are done and want to go back to the default brushes, just click on the *reset brushes*.

Make sense? I explain things much better with pictures. [confused]
 
Hi Karma,

Most likely the version of PS you have has a Preset Manager (Edit > Preset Manager). In the Preset Manager you can load Brushes, Patterns, Styles etc. First it helps if you place your brush files (.abr files) in the Presets > Brushes folder inside your Photoshop folder. Then they are recognized by the program for easy access.

Once there, you have two options in the Preset Manager. One is to use the Load button, navigate to the brush file you wish to load and click load. The brushes are added to the menu. Alternatively you can use the little menu button in the upper right (near the Done button). This provides an instant menu of all the brushed in the Preset folder. Selecting a brush set to load will throw up a little window with the option to replace all the brushes with those you are loading, append which means add them to the existing brush set, or cancel.

Also there is a Reset button which returns you to just the basic brush set which is a file called Basic Brushes.abr.

Dang, I knew it couldn't be that easy. :P I've never played with any PS version earlier than 7, so I forget things may have changed.

Whaddya mean, Sheba? Your suggestion is exactly right! :righton:

Using the Preset Manager has the added features of being able to edit your brush list by dragging brushes around, deleting individual brushes, renaming them, and that sort of thing. It provides some handy editing capacities. Your technique is great on the fly. (BTW the first Preset Manager appeared in PS7, as I remember it.)

I'm pretty sure I can remember how to do that, and that little append thing is exactly what I want to do, add the brushes instead of replacing the current list
