I have half pack of cigaretes, it's dark, i'm bored and don't have twitter.

Recently trying to get in shape i damaged my left hands fingers - index and one beside it (little sprain). I can move it but it hurts sometimes in some positons.
I use Curves at work for about 100 times per day. And now realized (acctually i find it not so confortable before too) that i hate CTRL+M. It HURTS. Not so much but multiple it 100 times. And because it so automatic it suppose to be unnoticed. Like "i want adjust black a litle" => curves panel just magical apeared and i can do what i want to.
But even with healty finger sometime its feel unconfortable too. Too long distance. I'm happy that i don't like Levels so much (because think that it isn't so precise) :)
And hate to take hand of mouse if it isn't absolutly unnecessary (right handed).

Okey, now i feel better!

I think all of us are doomed! Lol ;) I've been sitting at my desk for at least 12 hours a day for the last 10 years now and I'm really starting to notice how it's affecting my body. My right shoulder hurts simply by sitting at my desk, I don't even have to do anything. My left wrist has become pretty bad, I guess guitar and typing is too much of strain. And when I Photoshop long sessions then my right wrist really start hurting from all the wheel scrolling and the eternal clicking. It's amazing how many clicks to do, thousands.

I've started taking measures. I dictate this message using "DragonDictate". That Is a huge relief for my wrists as my daily typing is a fraction of what it used to be. I also use auto click software "RSI guard". May be the most amazing thing is that you actually realise how many clicks you would manually do if it wasn't for the software. I also tried to change my posture several times a day by either moving the seat up or down or even standing up when I did take e-mails and such.

Plus I try to swim for now at least four times a week as that really helps with relieving some of the bad posture you get used to.

I can't say that all of this is making me feel great, but I'm definitely not deteriorating. The way the economy goes these days I still have a few decades of work before I finally snuff it, so I've really started taking care of my body to make sure I can still work even when I'm past the average retirement age.

Let's see how it works out, at least that's the plan ;)

Cheers

Chris

Wow...thats very clever, about DragonDictate and RSI Guard i'll check it later. I think (read HOPE) i have some 5-10 years before actual need it. But posture you mentioned i agree too. Last time (before 2 month) changing position of monitor/scanner/keyboard (felt a need to new table/stuff layout) i start to think about enviroment ergonomic - for FIRST time in "10" years of work - that must be the sign. And actually tried to follow general guidelines!

And hand i injuried was that attempt to strenght up body for everyday needs (what an irony) :)
Should swim too, at young years i was kinda swimmer - orientation diver (don't know if it's correct translation) but now, it is so expensive to go to swimpool for me that couldn't allow it (family+kids, like in "Beverly Hills cop 3" was scene where Murphy asks for 50$ and Hector Elizondo's character said "I got a wife and three kids, I haven't seen a fifty in twelve years." - one of my favorite quote). I start to think about some morning runs and home excersise (without damaging myself of course).

Best wish for your plan to stay "in zone" as long as possible.

I have many many health problems myself. They really didn't come from sitting in front of a computer all day however that can compound issues for me. I am fortunate enough that insurance covers the cost of going to the local YMCA which happens to be the best gym in the area. Among the classes I take is yoga this is a great way to exercise and stretch and our instructor teaches what she calls 24/7 yoga. Its very helpful and teaches little yoga moves you can do when you are sitting (in front of your computer or watching tv), standing (in the kitchen cooking or washing dishes or in line at Walmart), or even laying down in bed. Sometimes its the little things that help out so much.
