Importing/Opening images to the layers panel.

I want to put one of two attributions on an image, so I put the image in the bottom the layer panel and put two txt layers above, one for each of two photographers. With this arraignment, I can select which name will appear on the image then save it as a jpg.

I thought if I saved the file with the txt layers as a PSD file I wouldn't have to recreate the txt layers each time I wanted attribute an image, but simply drag open images into the layers panel, add the txt and save it as a jpg.

But how do I import images into the layers panel of this PSD file?

I seem to remember doing it by clicking the image I want to add, then select the PSD file I want to add it to from a drop down, but I can't remember how I got to that option.

Of course, there might be an easier way. I just want to be able to add an attribution to images I'm using before posting them.

Hey Michael,

I hope I'm understanding you correctly. There are several ways to do this but the easiest way would be is to drag and drop the new image onto the canvas of the existing PSD file.

Yes, it appears that you do. The problem is I can't remember how to "drag and drop" an open image into an open PSD file. Like I said, I was able to once, but I've forgotten how, like I can't find the option. I recall there being a window that offered the option to select an open image and copy it to the desired open DSD file, but I've forgotten how.

Guess I've been spending too much time in Lr /-: Use it or lose it (-:

Mike, this is a basic tutorial on opening images. The one thing not mentioned here is that the first method he talks about can be used to open additional images in an already opened PSD file. The image will of course appear in the layers panel.

Thanks, but I'm not a beginner. I've been working in Ps for years but I'm just a bit rusty because I tend to spend more time in Lr and Premiere, these days.

Maybe I'm not making myself clear. The PSD file I'm working with has 3 layers, an image layer and 2 text layers (the names I want to put in the corner of the image.

I turn on the image layer and 1 of the text layers, so only one name appears. Then I save the file as a jpg and remove the image.

Now I want to add another image, in the place of the one I just removed, so I can repeat the process. Which is to Turn off one of the text layers above, save the 2 layers (the image and the text) as a jpg, then remove the image and replace it with another one, that is already open.

How do I get an open image onto a layer in the PSD file with the two text layers?

No..........this is perfectly clear.

I completely understand.

How do I get an open image onto a layer in the PSD file with the two text layers?
No matter where the image is located, just drag and drop the image onto the existing PSD file with the text. Just like the first suggestion in the tutorial.

If the new image is already open in a tab, just use the Move Tool to drag the open file to the tab of the file with the text.

That doesn't work when I do it. As soon as I click the image I want to add the layered file it disappears. I can drag the image onto the layered file but nothing happens.

But if I select the image, using Alt-A, I can drag and drop it onto the file with the text layers.

What does Alt + A do?

Control/Command + A selects all.

I'm certain now that your doing something that I don't understand. I understand what you want to do, so no need to explain again, but your not doing something right. This is very simple. Would you like me to make a video for you?

Ok, I get it! I was dragging the window, not the image inside the window!

Great!! I'm sorry for the confusion.....................I somethimes have a hard time explaining things! So I'm slightly to blame, I apologize.

No need, really!

I appreciate your willingness to take the time and hang in there with me! Between the two of us, the problem was solved so I have cause for complaint!

Actually, I feel a little stupid
