Image size


perhaps I am not reading your question correct but I will have a go............. you want an image to go from 1 to a 4 pixels? then in photoshop go to image/ image size and put the new size in there. or you could go image/ canvas size and fill the canvas with the colour of the 1 pixel (1 pixel wouldn't have any details so you could do it this way.)

no, i guess I wasn't clear--
I got a picture from the web that was only 1"x1" and I want to blow it up to at least 4"x4".

When I change the image size the picture becomes distorted. What's a Photoshop trick to blow a picture up and retain a fair amount of clarity.

I'm afraid there is no trick to it, if you strach a 1"x1" picture all you are doing is creating space between the pixels and you have very grainy looking result. In this case ther is not to much that can be done. [doh]
 
Rick hit the nail on the head. Image Size and Resolution are linked. If one goes up, the other goes down. It "guesses" (resample) as to what the newly created pixels ought to be. So, for example. If you have an image that is 1" x 1" at 72 DPI. That means there's 72 pixels across and 72 pixels down. If you try to increase the size to be 4" x 4", you still only have 72 pixels across and dwn. Something's got to give. With RESAMPLE checked, Photoshop now creates new pixels to maintain 72DPI. If it's NOT checked the resolution will actually reduce to 18 DPI. Either case, both are pretty ugly. :righton:
