Has anyone a suggestion for a better/easier to use sharpen filter?
Have used UnSharpMask, Nik sharpener[hell to use, but effects good].

Its for small (6"x4") scanned prints that were blurry to start with.

and:
Can anyone explain why PS7 has "12" jpg levels and not 10 or 100?
It doesn't equate with the 100% allowed.

Thanks for the help, I'll try them.
nix sharpener does a decent job, as does Usm, I just find it awkward to use.

Another technique that is worth mentioning and the one I use most of the time; HighPass Sharpening.
  • Open an image
  • Duplicate this layer
  • On this new layer change the blending mode to low light, overlay or hard light (I prefer overlay)
  • Go to Filter/Other/Highpass... and move the slider until you have the sharpness you want.[/list:u]

Don't add too much sharpening or you'll create "halos"

I used that "find edges" + contrast etc technique to good effect. Experiment!

Thanx, I've used find edges often to make a "drawing" effect of action shots, but not used it in this way.
Blending modes are pretty decent at enhancing hazy views.

Been experimenting with Genuine Fractals lately, so these are next in line.
