Hi all.

Is anyone using, or recently used AI 8. I'm finally ditching CorelDRAW and jumping to Illustrator. Just want to know if I can get the version 8 paths into PS 7.

I'll probably upgrade to version 10 once i've given 8 a try. It's just an expense I can't afford just yet and I'm really just looking for a more fully featured paths plug-in for PS 7, so 8 should be fine for now.

Any info that would encourage me or put me off buying AI 8 for integration with PS 7 would be gratefully recieved.

Thanks

Sark

First, good luck upgrading to 10...copies on e-bay are available, but going fast, and going more and more expensive.

I'm running 8, works fine with PS7. Make sure you have the patch installed, though.

MsOz, Hi.

It's good to hear version 8 shouldn't be a problem as I can pick this up reasonably priced in the UK. The V9's and V10's still fetch a reasonable price.

Frustratingly, There is currently a full retail V10 on ebay for just ?65 (Buy it now), but it's for Mac.

Version 8 appears to have the same basic Path and Shape tools as recent versions so, will be fine for me, for now.

Thanks for posting.

PS...Is the UK ebay the only one that tolerates such blatant selling of copied/pirated software. It occupies up to 80% of the listings for popular brands and ebay do nothing about it???

Hi Sark,

Copying paths between AI 8 an PS 7 works without any difficulty. Clipboard conversion to AICB which allows you the option to paste as paths, shape layers, or pixels in PS 7 is automatic. AI 8 was fast and responsive. I still know quite a few professionals who swear that AI 8 was the best version of Illustrator ever produced. Enough of the basic code changed in AI 9 that there were lots of problems with that version and more than a few people regard it as a glorified beta. AI 10 resolved most of the problems but the speed of the app was still slow and has never been as responsive as AI 8 for basic drawing although there were lots of new features. Personally, I'd suggest that you get AI 8 and don't bother with an upgrade to 9 or 10 but jump straight to CS when you can afford it. CS is a Major upgrade, even over AI 10.

Welles, Hi.

Thanks for the comments. I wish I'd bid a little higher on a recent ebay listed new AI 8 I just missed out on. There unavailable here new now.

Reading your's and MsOz's comments has convinced me it's worth paying a fair price for a version 8, rather than expecting to get the bargain I usually hope for (cheapskate that I am) ;)

Will keep looking.

Thanks again

Sark
