Okay, first off... If I have a photographer take my picture with a quality camera, how do I achieve this look in photoshop? Or is there anybody here that could achieve this look? I will pay, hehe...
also, is this something that depends on the lighting when the picture is taken? Thanks guys.2eyhstk.jpg

Depending on your image you can probably get there using channels.

Honestly, I don't even know what that means.... I was hoping it would be something easy. Hopefully there is somebody here that could do it for me on my image once it's taken tomorrow.

Just remembered this thread ...

Probably the best way to start would be to invert the hues of the image, but not the saturation or luminosity. The final hues may need to be further tweaked, say, using a hue/sat adjustment layer.

Also, note that the shadow areas tend to be more blue, while the highlight areas are more pink. Achieving this effect is probably most easily done using the sliders in a "levels" adjustment layer.

Next, if you look carefully at the example image, there are some fine line patterns / texture that need to be added, plus a bit of noise (both hard and soft).

To show that these tweaks at least gets one in the same ballpark as the image cited by the OP, I used one of my photos, a friend (...hence the blocked face) with fair Caucasian skin in a park to illustrate the effect of the above steps. Obviously, the light raking over the shirt and edge of the guy's face in the goal image is not present in the photo I started with, but if we had that, I think the similarities would be quite reasonable.

HTH,

Tom

It could have possibly been a gradient map.....

BTW, I just re-read the thread and noticed the following question.

"...If I have a photographer take my picture with a quality camera, how do I ..."

The issue is not the camera. A competent individual could take a suitable photo with a point and shoot or cell phone camera, and it would likely be adequate. The real issues are posing, lighting and the background -- especially lighting.

Also, I forgot that you said that you weren't familiar with PS, so, as was pointed out before, our fee-for-service section might be use to you, or you might see if someone might do the work for you for free, possibly as a challenge to themselves.
