Idea I just had

I was watching this show called shipping wars and one of the items being shipped was a life size replica of the Simpsons on their couch. Some how that gave me an idea. The Simpsons have been on the air for a long time yet they never age. So my idea would be for an animated show that the characters age just like they would on a normal show. I don't know how feasible that idea is but it is something I haven't seen before. If i knew how or had more of an idea of the show I would pitch it to someone. Probably get screwed in the process, but ain't that the way it goes? lol.

There is image editing software available for aging a person, but I don't think that is what you're looking for! You know, like they use on Bones or other crime busting tv shows.

We have had some threads in which members did this with real people based on what happens to the human face with age. I remember some but not all of the criteria.

The nose gets longer, the chin shrinks? Don't remember exactly. And of course wrinkles occur. I don't know whether this would be best to find out doing a search on the forum or searching through google. I would look up "aging a person" or "qualities of the human face (and body which I know does shrink) with aging."

Not even close Clare. What I mean is for there to be a cartoon where the characters age like the would in real life. I mean the Simpsons have been on the air since 1989 and the characters haven't aged at all. Sure the animation has gotten a lot better but that's it. See what I'm sayin?

I don't understand what you mean by not even close. If you want to age them, you will have to use the same criteria you would apply to a human face.

I don't want to age them, I just want to see a cartoon character age over time like humans do on regular shows. I mean this isn't anything I would do myself just something I thought would be nice to see.

So you don't want aged skin. Then only the artist of the simpson characters who has the copyright can redraw an aged version or is allowed to this.

Andrew, I get what your talking about. A cartoon comprised of characters that the artist ages each year just as the cast of a similar show with human characters would age yearly. Clare is RIGHT. The same aging techniques that are applied to the aging of human characteristics would also apply to the aging of it's animated counterparts.

I don't think the idea would be an easy sell. The concept art alone that would have to be in place from day one in order to avoid copyright issues would be a nightmare.

Hershey means if a series started in 2010 and the main star of it was say 10 and you the viewer was 30 you would both be older now and look slightly different, but like most cartoons they actually never age.

I guess the problem I see with aging the characters as the show goes on would mean that they might age themselves out of the show. How old would your oldest be after 10 or 20 years? Would the show remain popular if the characters get older/old and change personalities? Wouldn't they to some degree? What if somebody hit 90 yrs. old, lol?
