Sorry about my title guys, but i really want to learn photoshop. I started trying to learn photoshop CS6 last tuesday.. I had read and watched so many videos in youtube and applying them like changing hair color and making an image a cartoon in photoshop. But until now, i still couldnt do it right especially using the pen tool. Maybe im just hasting too much and i should begin at lower levels of practice. I want to ask you guys where would i start? I mean, what would i do to practice in photoshop? Would i edit and retouch images as a beginner. Please tell me anything that i could do. I will do it no matter what i wont sleep till i do it right because i know learning photoshop is a long term learning and ill be back here thanking all of you from time to time.. Thank you so much help me become a pro editor pls.. thanks.. :naughty:

Hey Tigidig3x!

The main thing to remember about photoshop, is it takes a fair while to get used to, you'll need slightly longer than a couple of weeks (it took me a year to be completely comfortable with all aspects)
In my opinion and from my own experience, your approach to it shouldn't matter too much, you can take on photoshop from all sorts of angles and so long as you practise, refine and experiment, you'll get it. But if you find yourself not being able to use a certain tool and you would like to, search up tutorials on how to use it.

here's a tutorial if you haven't tried it already, practice getting used to it before you begin anything more.

I hope you find it informative :)

It's always a good time to learn the pen tool!

Try finding a tut on what handles, paths and anchor points are all about.

This is a tut about the pen tool. It would be good if you get used to it straight away, rather than struggle later on.

it takes time to get used to any software so be patient. If you know some experienced person who works on photoshop just observe his work and spend some time with him, that's how i learnt.

really big thanks for all of your help guys..

On all of the video tuts i watched about photoshop, i always see the tutor using pen tool. So im thinking, you wouldnt be an effective layout artist if you wont master pen tool right?

Also another question, are these e-books free? I downloaded learn photoshop CS6 and i got all its containing chapters without them asking me for payment or something,. Well, im assuming it isnt free since i see a "get trial" option in it. Could you clarify please? I also want this because i think it has many basics for me to learn.

Again, thanks for all of your help im gonna try to learn all of these you gave me and hopefully someday i can show my work here in these forum with you. Please give me more tuts that you think would help me thank you so much.. im gonna practice pen tool right now hopefully can master it..

I want to be, the very best.
Like no one ever was!
to pen them is my real test
to shop them is my call.
I will travel across the web
searching far and high.
It's photoshop to understand
the power that's inside.

I have tried books similar to these before but they never worked for me when I was beginning. The way I learnt was watching a lot of videos and spending even more time just experimenting myself and playing around with the different tools. Set yourself a crazy project that you think you might be able to get into, and along the way look up video tutorials of the different effects/tools that you think you may need to use for it. If you keep doing this you'll get there pretty quickly.

Above all you'll need to be able to think (speak) in layers and masks. It took me a little while but things just became 'easy' after I got the hang of that.
