Would have been a bit easier if I understood that from the beginning.

Sometimes making the background transparent is best done with the new background available to get the edge tuned in with the non transparent portion. Here is my best shot at your request and hope that works for you (PNG format so you have transparency preserved)

Try it out on your desired background and see if that works for you.
