I need some help please

Hello there

I was wondering if someone can help me please.

Generally I am a normal landscape photographer but I also would like to create surreal minimal lanscapes in Ps. For ages now I've been trying to get to grips with creating these surreal minimal landscapes and every time I lose heart. I am aiming for BW and muted/desaturated colour imagery.

I can't seem to get to grips with creating the atmospheric ambience that I need, and also putting it all together seemlessly, right down to the shadowing and detail. :banghead:

I have long admired Yves Lecoq's (Flickr) work (his sinister images rather than his humerous images)...
www.flickr.com/photos/yveslecoq/
...it's all about creating the right light but most importantly that eerie ambience.

That eerie ambient atmosphere is more evident with someone I just found on Flickr...

...her ladders image is typical of what I would like to do.

Can someone point me to some tutorial that might help me please? Does a step by step tutorial exist in Ps Gurus? I tour the world of DeviantArt but even there there is nothing decisive I can find that will get me on my way. I'm trying to find a tutorial that I can apply to any image. I know how to select and paste and I know how to dodge and burn (essential I think) but I can't find anything concrete.

Keywords I am trying to achieve: ethereal, fog, light, moody, surrealism, black and white, minimalism, fantasy.

Many thanks for your help.

Scott

We get a lot of how do I do this, or how do I duplicate that effect questions.
If only it were that easy.
Once in a while there's a simple answer.

Most of the time it's not so simple, it's actually very complicated.

The images you are trying to duplicate are usually the work of very talented artists and the adjustments are usually very, very complex.
There is no 1 button answer or simple A, B, and C solutions.

My suggestion is to post an example of a photo you want to alter, and post an example of the artist work you want to duplicate.

That way we can "try" to figure it out together.
