Anyone think it's possible? Maybe it's better to use Illustrator? It would save me weeks of trouble if someone could help me figure out how this was made, I would be eternally grateful! I know how to make a square and use bevel but that's about it. Using a brush gives only straight lines so I don't know where to start on those textures but eventually I need to be able to create something similar to this.

If someone could write a tutorial I would be even more grateful! :)

edit: I don't know how to remove attachments, could someone help?

Hmm, i'm not an expert at Photoshop But maybe you could look up "marble tile" on Google and paste them into a Photoshop file. (You can always change the color of the tiles with for example lightning effects).

Then you select the layer cut it out. paste it into a new layer. Now double click on the layer and check the box that reads: "Bevel and emboss". Then set your technique to soft, size to about 20, and soften to about 3. Then you should have a pretty neat looking tile.

After you've done that you can make a bigger document and copy and paste the tiles you made and you could recolor some afterwards.

Hope this helps,

I have to leave in 5 minutes, so here is a quick idea, mostly addition or slight variation to Curodine's advice.

You can make the marble effect or take a marble and alter it. Use soft brushes, very opacities, get spatter brushes, maybe cloud brushes or flame brushes, blur the edges with erasers, smudge tool etc. Do the B&E like C suggested. Now make a layer bleow and take a medium soft brush, vary with a harder brush. Brush along the edge of the tile so that you can make that irregular line. The you can take soft smudge or eraser (I actually prefer using masks for this kind of thing) and alter the edges of the tile a bit so they aren't so straight. Alter the line with the smudge tool but be subtle. Incidentally, another way to add the edge is to click the thumbnail of the tile to make a selection, invert it, then make a layer above and paint along the edges from the inside. The brush will only paint inside your selection area.

That's all I have time to suggest. I imagine you'll get some further ideas from members here. Have fun experimenting.
