i need help (tutorial)

Welcome Rosen, unfortunatly your pic did not load so we can't be of much help. Try to upload your example again :righton:

Those are both fairly basic effects overall.

But can you be somewhat more specific as to what 'part' of those images you want to create? i.e. what effect exactly are you after?

Welcome to the community btw. Hope you enjoy your stay. [excited]

The Buffy background appears to be a picture that has been very burred. There is a gradient applied to the text to give it a varied coloring.

Read your User Help Files (F1) about Gradients and about Gaussian Blur, and experiment with some images. Post your results here. Good Luck!

Hi WBhost,

Here's my Buffy attempt.

First I used a stock photograph from Photoshop Goodies of a parrot because the colors were roughly similar to the example you posted. I duplicated the background and used Gaussian blur to blur the heck out of the copy. I used a layer mask with that layer and used a soft black brush to hide the blurred eye and reveal the original. That was the background.

I then used the text tool to make the type. I rasterized the type layer (Layer > Rasterize > Type) and then locked the transparency by clicking on the little checkerboard icon next to the word "Lock:" at the top of the Layers Palette. Next I used the Eyedropper tool and selected the lightest and darkest colors in the Buffy text of the image you used as a reference. Those were made foreground and background colors just for convenience.

So I have my colors and text with the transparent pixels locked on the text layer. I filled the text with my foreground color which happened to be the lighter color by using Command (Control) + Delete. Then I chose a wild brush from the brush palette, lowered the opacity of the brush to about 20% and just painted on the text until I got a texture similar to the Buffy text sample. Finally I used a simple Outer Glow layer style to try and make it look like the original.

That was accomplished by double clicking on my text layer in the Layers Palette. I checked Outer Glow in the left hand column, clicked on the words to bring up the Outer Glow options window and chose to use a very dark brown for a color, and about a 2 pixel glow. I tried a little drop shadow too but couldn't tell if it was needed or not because the original image was too small to analyze all the detail.

Here's the result...
