Hey everyone, I could use a lil help if you got a minute or two to check out my issue.... please.
In this tutorial

http://psd.tutsplus.com/tutorials/text-effects-tutorials/create-a-layered-glowing-text-effect/

I made it to the second part of step 7

What does he mean "exactly" by "highlight the single letter"?...... I cant get the letter to change to a different letter. I have the group layer selected, but thats apparently not what he means cause the letter will not change to a different letter when I try to change it.

Im including an attachment...... if you look at the tutorial .... Im not concerned with the gradient layers, thats not my prob.

Its my second or third go around at the thing and Im concerned with changing the letter to a different letter. I hope an attachment of the lay out will help resolve why the letter wont change to a different letter.

BTW... I'm not that familiar with group layers..... I dont think I've used them before

Many Thanks in advance!!

Ron

This attaqchment is actually where Im at the other was not right, sorry bout that.

OK I have what I believe is the correct layer selected and the others turned off like it says in the tut.

Im trying to change the second U to a V..... when I select the type tool and click on the second U to change it, the selected layer jumps down one layer.......... the V I type then just goes over the existing U and doesnt change the actual U......... hope this makes sense.

Hi Tioga...

I'm not exactly sure (without going through the tutorial) but it sounds like you're not lining up the type cursor where it needs to be.

Try this instead... double click the layer with the letter you want to change. This will make Photoshop highlight the letter. Then just type the new letter and click on a different layer to complete the change.

Hope that helps.
Take care.

Mark (aka theKeeper)...

When I double click the group layer the layer style window pops up.

Im trying to change the second U to a V...... but keep the effects on the V that are on the U.

No you can't double click the group layer you must only click the single 'U' layer. If there are multiple 'U' letter layers, you will have to change each separately.

I hope i'm understanding this correctly.

Let me know.
Mark...

Yea.... thats it thank you..... I have to change the letter in each text layer in each group. I was under the false impression that if they were grouped I could change them all in one click but I cant do that obviously.

That tutorial..... I would like to take a hammer to it.... lol

Thank you for your help.
