Hi guys, I am new to Photoshop and i've been watching several tutorials. In every tutorial they all have a lock lgo and they unlock layers etc. this logo does not show up on my screen? How do I get this to appear?

Left click on the padlock to unlock layers.

What do you mean by logo?
Can you add a picture of it?

To be sure we're talking about the same...

Untitled-1.jpg

The one on the left is a JPEG and the one on the right is a PNG (never locked)

The padlock icon is there to indicate that the layer is a a background layer.

The background layer will only appear when you open an image or existing PSD document containing a background layer. It will be the bottom most layer in the Layers palette. The background layer is always locked or protected, meaning you cannot change its stacking order, blending mode, or opacity unless you convert it into a regular layer. It will be the only layer with a padlock. All subsequent duplicates of the layer will not have padlocks.

If you create a NEW DOCUMENT, then the original layer or any subsequent duplicate layers will NOT have the padlock icons.

If you don't have a background, you can also convert the bottom most layer by selecting the layer and going to LAYER > NEW > BACKGROUND FROM LAYER.

LOL Lambert! Had the same idea!

Got int interrupted by a phone call so I did not see the notice that a new post had been made!
