How would an image like this be created?

I wanted to hear your guys' more-qualified opinion on how you think something like this was created -- obviously there's a vignetted background to start, but the logo and text in the image seem to sit naturally, almost blurred into the background.

Thoughts? Thanks in advance for checking it out.

Bonus question - what would be a good technique for creating a simple logo such as that?

A good logo design with the right font will always be justice enough....

But as it's in a grayscale, you cant really go wrong.

And Ai (Illustrator) will create a clean design with ease, Photoshop can do too, but my weapon of choice for logo design is always Ai.

There's and older thread on a similar image HERE.
What your calling a vignette is actually a radial gradient. Your right about the text though, it has a mild blur.

I agree with Inkz here, Ai is the better choice for making these types of logos, but you can use Ps.

Thanks for the replies guys, I knew nothing about radial gradients and hadn't looked into AI for creating a logo before - both helpful responses. Much appreciated.
