How was the AMCTV website template done?

I'm working on a website for a Paranormal Team that is doing a new Paranormal Reality television show. I would like to do a template that is similar to the AMCTV/"The Walking Dead" theme. I guess it could be considered a dark grunge look. I like the glassy transparent look to the modules and menus as well as the brownish lighting effect on the black background behind the menus. Would anyone have links to tutorials that I can learn how to do this type of layout and/or effect?

Thank you,

Jim

Thats just a customised wordpress theme very simple to do especially if you can make your own themes. If you are new to theme development then maybe try purchasing headway theme it lets you build themes directly on your site by click and drag boxes and layouts.

It is quite pricey though but I have used it for some clients as it is a lot quicker than making your own theme from scratch, just be prepared to fine tune the css and tidy up some of the code as all these click and drop themes tend to jumble code up a bit which makes the site run slower.

One issue with that is that my sites are running Joomla 3.2

Are you talking about this...........

No, not the banner. I was referring to the actual [www]AMCTV[dot]com site template/theme.

I have never actually used Joomla any kind of site I do along those lines I tend to use wordpress so cant name any reputable joomla theme builders however Artisteer is a program that claims to be able to generate themes for wordpress, joomla and many more you could give that a go. http://www.artisteer.com/

I have a copy of Artisteer 4. It doesn't support current web design/development technologies such as Bootstrap or CSS3/Less. For the price they charge for it, it's worthless in my opinion. I would prefer to do my site template in photoshop then slice it up and do my joomla template by hand. There's too much proprietary code in a lot of these premium templates and the CSS doesn't always match up. I've also lost faith in support from those guys too. The packages are too over priced for the 30 seconds worth of support they offer.

Are there no tutorials on those type of effects in photoshop? If you look at the background on the website it appears to be either a radial gradient or some sort of lighting effect. Not sure. Any help or direction in this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Jim, you can post images. Try a screen grab and add some arrows.

Anything here look like what your talking about?

Ok.. Will do. To answer your question though... yes. That light brown smudge color behind the navigation menu. I'm trying to figure out how that is done. I saved the background from the site. I'll upload it when I get a free moment.

Jim, I believe that that effect is just an image (photo) that has been stretched with the transform function and blurred. You can mimic the effect by creating a wide document, adding some similarly colored/shaded rectangles and stretching them with the transform function. Then add a blur. Not perfect but you could get fairly close.

Very cool! Thank you for the idea! :)
