I'm new to photoshop. My husband bought me Photoshop Elements 7 not too long ago.

I'm having trouble understanding PSD files. When I download one from deviantART.com and open it the layer section looks like this:
layers.jpg

How to I open those set files to pull out one image of the psd file? Everything is all lumped together and I can't use it that way. Does that make sense?

Help please! :)

The layers "Layer 1" and "background" are not actually layers at all, they are folders, containing layers inside. Just like a folder on your computer, it may contain files inside. Some Photoshop users use folders to keep their layers organised. I have not used Elements before, but try double clicking one of those folders in the layers box. If this doesn't work, try double clicking the little icon to the right (looks like a pen or feather) on each of those 2 folders.
