How to remove wrinkles from a tablecloth?

Hi,

Any good ideas or tutorials on how to remove wrinkles from a tablecloth? I have a wedding photo with a tablecloth wrinkled that I want to smooth out.

I can reduce the luminance difference with a luminance mask + curves or exposure layer, then maybe use frequency separation or patch tool, and make it look better, but any other good or better ideas on how to make it look smooth?

Robert

Also, I can use Clone tool with the Vanishing Point feature in CS6 to maintain perspective, but looking for any other ideas that might be better or faster. Thanks!

ty for the troll clare.

eeh, depends, if it has a pattern, it's going to be harder.

Clone stamp, or cut out a different section and paste it on top of it,
make sure it has a soft edge, apply a curves adjustment to the pasted layer

Chris,

Thanks. Good point, for some reason I hadn't thought about copying and pasting sections. Combined with a carefully placed Vanishing point plane and the other techniques I'm thinking about, it should be an improvement.

Clare,

Good idea. I'll tell the bride to re-stage her wedding, and this time make sure the stylist smooths the tablecloth beneath the wedding cake :banghead:

Thanks!
Robert

Also, how do you edit a post in the forum? This is a new forum format for me (I'm used to vBulletin and others) and I don't see an Edit button anywhere on the message windows for my posted messages.

Thanks. Ok, something's wrong, then. I saw Reply and Reply With Quote but I didn't see Edit Post...... Now I do...... I'm willing to believe it's user error but I honestly didn't see it until now. Thanks again!

Post the image mate, some one with the skills will be able to oblige/tell you how i bet.

I believe you need 8 posts before the edit button will appear. So you can just make a new post, or proofread real carefully!

Sorry, I've been in a real snappy mood lately. :bustagut:

So, a new wedding date? Works for me. Actually, what I was getting at, andI knew you could read my mind, was finding a similar one on the web and substituting it. But yeah, I was joking. Of course, not seeing the picture, it's petty hard to suggest what would work best. Sounds like you found a solution. Bravo!

Under which menu?

Silly girl! Don't you remember that it used to under:
File / Automate / Conditional Mode Change / Housewife

until that big ruckus and then Adobe moved it to:
Filter / Distort.

It's right there with "displace", "ripple" and "wave".

ROFL Tom. Not being a housewife, I never looked there. But being an on-line, neurotic moderator (http://www.photoshopgurus.com/forum...filezilla-driving-me-nuts.html#post1533624663), I have used, distort quite often, most often displace, but you should get a load of my self-portrait on ripple. Maybe I'll post it later. Poor OP. He made the mistake of coming here for advice. At least he seems to have a relative level of tolerance and a decent sense of humor. So it appears. BTW, I never use W:wave:VE except to show others who might benefit from it's use. Think I'll try that on my self-portrait and see if it improves my cheekbones!
