How to remove white from a silver gradient effect?

I would like to reduce the range of this gradient effect so that it doesn't include pure white. As it is now, when I place the image on a white background, I can't see half of the "v" because it is white.

Open the Gradient Editor by clicking on the gradient window of the gradient overlay in the layer style and adjust the white gradient to an off white.
