How to remove blemish on photo

My son was asked to photograph my brother's wedding and unfortunately there must have been a smudge on the lens of the borrowed camera, because most of the photos, regardless of where they were taken, have ended up with a blemish in the same position as in the attached photo.

I have tried to fix it using the burn tool, but this wasn't successfull.

Any suggestions on how to fix it would be appreciated. I am using Photoshop CS3 and only have a basic working knowledge of the software...although I am learning all the time!

Have you tried using the blur tool or the clone tool? with the clone tool use alt then press a place that isnt messed up then let off of alt then paint with it. It takes a few tries to get used to it.

Haven't tried either on this one. Did try the healing brush though. I'm not very proficient with the clone tool yet, but will give it a try.

Thanks for the tip

How to remove blemish on photo?

Did the healinng brush not work or what?

Not very well. However since I made the initial post I played around with different combinations of the burn tool, duplicating layers etc and it has improved considerably however I couldn't completely fix the area over my brother's face.
