how to prepare images from printing

I have a bunch of pictures (watercolor paintings, postcards, etc) and I need to print them out on a laser printer in format 4*6 or 5*7. Are there any common steps to prepare them for printing? any tutorial or tips?

First step is to scan them. Can't say from there unless I could see the images. Good luck.
