How to make this effect for text

The logo is not completely white but also not completely silver, its some kind of text effect ... how do I make it? thanks for any help in advance!

On my monitor, the type is pure white. The back is a gradation between light gray and medium gray. The very outer bit is solid gray, but it looks graded because the inner fill is graded.

Not sure I understand what you're asking.

The text is all the same size, no effect there.

To make the background you cam make a rectangular shape and color it with the gradient tool like sweasel said and then us transform to to make this shape.
You can also just draw the shape with the polygon lasso tool.
