Hello everyone im Niranjana and Im new to this forum. Im creating a catalog for my company and I dn't have lots of experience. Im really confused with the size of it. but I figure it out some how. my catalog size is 8.75'x11.25 its with the bleed area.so my question is should I create the design for two pages B'coz its a book ? so what'll be the size ? is it 8.75x22.50 ?

In spite of what you may think or what you may hope for, things always change at the very last minute in the preparation of a book for printing.

For example, a new image or new text might need to be inserted or deleted, font or image sizes changed, etc. The problem is that if you develop your book in Photoshop, then when something like this happens, you have to practically start over from square one. Even with a small book, it's a LOT of work.

Instead, you want to use a program like Adobe InDesign which automatically lets text flow smoothly from page to page, repagination occurs automatically, etc. In addition, InDesign comes with many useful templates for books, pamphlets, catalogs, etc., and many more can be found on the web.

InDesign also allows you to specify the binding method that will be used, so that when the book is assembled, the pages will appear in the correct order, even though each one will likely be printed on both sides of a sheet of paper that is roughly double the width of one page. You will drive yourself crazy if you try to do this yourself.

Just my 2 cents.

Do the design layout and pagination in the normal catalog layout size of 8.75'x11.25 . Your printer should be able to compensate for the catalog thickness on their side of pre-production.

As Tom stated, In-Design (formerly Pagemaker) has the ability to automatically adjust the pagination in the event you have to add extra pages.

Thank you Tom Mann. Its Very helpfull. But I dont know about InDesign but Im gonna Try. what do you think will I able to do It in InDesign ??:rolleyes:

With a bit of study, one can learn the basics -- certainly enough to use available InDesign templates. IMHO it's much easier to get up and running with InDesign than Photoshop. There are many excellent tutorials available on the web.

Good luck,

Tom

InDesign is like Photoshop . As a basic intro..... If you've done lines of text in PS, the same works with ID but with more control over it. Images are imported in and with controls to set the boundary between text around it.
