Re: How to get this type of matte finish with vertical lines

Hi and welcome to PSG.

This is probably an effect created by the viewer used on the website.
This was discussed here: http://www.photoshopgurus.com/forum/photoshop-newbies/48427-dot-layer-image.html#post1533666534

However, it's easy enough to simulate with Photoshop.

First create a new document 2 pixels wide and 1 pixel in height.
Use your Pencil Tool and a 1 pixel square brush, black as your foreground color, and click to one side of the rectangle or the other, doesn't matter which.

Then go to EDIT > DEFINE PATTERN. Give the pattern a name.
Close the document. You can save if you want.

On the photo you would like to add the vertical lines to.....
Go to your create a new fill or adjustment layer Icon and select Pattern fill.
Choose the pattern you just made and adjust to your liking.

You know, the ability to make and use Patterns is a great PS feature. I use it a lot in what I do. In fact, I use it sometimes instead of making a clipping mask. I use Layer Styles and choose Pattern Overlay. Quick and easy when using the same on several different things. Also filling with Patterns is cool too.

I agree Larry. The only reason I prefer the Pattern fill over Pattern overlay in styles is that I can use the accompanying layer mask. With the Pattern overlay in a layer style, your stuck.
