Illustrator How to edit/add color to a letterhead logo in .eps format ?

Hi,

I have been working on a business logo that will eventually be used for letterheads. I initially designed the logo in AutoCAD and somehow was able to export it to Adobe Illustrator in .eps format. Now then, I haven't used Illustrator nor Photoshop before though I started searching for some tutorials on internet. Now then, I believe .eps is a vector file since I can paste the logo in word and I can scale it down or up without losing definition and detail. While I am happy about how this is turning, I still need to fill some of those polygons with solid green color. The only Illustrator tools that seem to work on my logo are the pencil and the Blob brush tools, nothing else. I tried out the two tools but I realized it will be dificult, almost impossible to fill my polygon (which is very elaborated and irregular) without having to zoom in at the maximum. Please, let me know of any approaches you would use that do not demand time in excess. In AutoCAD for instance I can use something called Hatch and will fill in any closed polygon in a sec simply by clicking once inside the polygon. The problem is that AutoCAD only allows me to use black color and I need it to be green. Also, one of the tutorials explains that one can go to Select->Same->Fill Color but for some reason is not working either. Do I need to work this in a different file format? I would appreciate your help so much. I spent a good many hours trying to figure this out.

Thanks a lot.
