How to draw white text surrounded by black layer?

I need to draw white text surrounded by a black layer, for the text to be visible against the background. How can I do that with Photoshop?

You have an example of what your trying to do?? If your trying to do what i think your trying to do then make your text and goto Layer Styles and stroke it with black..

they are all just blending options except the black box one witch is a rectangle drawn on the layer below the text.
