Hi, guys and gals; How is everybody? My name is k.c; I am new to this forum, be kind to me. I know a little about photo shop, and would need some help on this subject--how do you crop an image or item out from a scanned page and use it later without having a white box around that image? I tried to place that image on a new file with transparent background, but when it comes to time to paste that in my project in illustrator, the white box is always there. Help!

I'm not sure I'm following you.

Open the original, make the crop, and Save As NewName.jpg.

Open or drag NewName.jpg into your new document.

After you have cut out the back ground save it as a PNG file type, this gives you the empty background you want.

If I save the image in .png format; can I use that in illustrator for design and print it out later?

I tried that, but like I said- it has a white background surrounding the image itself. I won't be able to use this cropped image if it has something else surrounding it.
