How to create good banners for website

Hi guys, this is my first post on the forum.

I got a job a couple of months ago for a local website selling video games in Norway. I had no Photoshop experience when I joined, and knew that I had to work myself up to a certain level to get where I wanted to be.

I've learnt the basics now, very very basics, and can make a decent banner. But I want to learn how to make banners as the ones you see on play.com, gamestop.com, etc. Are there any good tutorials you could point me in the direction of in order to get better at this?

You can see the site I am working for below, and the banners I make up to this date, and determin how much of a noob I really am. Hopefully you got some clues where to look to get better. :)

link: gamezone(.no) (doesn't allow me to post links, so had to add some ()).

Let me know if you need any answers before being able to point me in the right direction.

Get Flash from Adobe thats what I see on those sites

Do you mean banners or headers w/navigation buttons?? I don't see much flash in any of the sites you posted as far as the banners go, not sure what iDad is seeing.. We can't really tell you how to be creative but we can give you some ideas if you give us some specifics...

Cheers for replying, guys.

I am not looking for advice in terms of how the site is looking. We're currently working on a new design for the site (that is not my field, so I stay out of that. Flash will be available though).

What I am looking for advice on is how to make the banners look more "pro". E.g., Gamestop got some glossy stuff on their banners, while play.com has some paper rift (I've seen a tutorial on that, can do that actually), but also what appears to be banners created from scratch, incl. the symbols/objects inside it. E.g. the christmas theme their banners have right now on the front page.

I have no problem being creative, which is why it is so frustrating when the skills don't match my ideas.

I'd also love to learn how to create online magazines (for campaigns, special offers etc) like this: LINK (http....)folders.eplaza (.com) /E-Plaza_Folder_week_43_2010/

What tutorials should I read in order to learn how to do this?

Cheers alot for your help. :)

Post an example pic of what you are trying to do. You are allowed to post images, just upload as an attachment or use Imgur.

Imgur? never saw that before......Gaussian, are you spamming LOL

LOL, Imgur is just the easiest image hosting site that I know of.... good retention times and no annoying captcha or account required.
