hey guys,

i want to know if there is a way possible to write text in damaged building effect.

i dont have any pictures but i can explain for example if we write E, the top bar is damaged from the end and the middle one has broken windows or something like that

is this effect at all possible,

thanks

P.S. sorry if in wrong section but the tut request thread is closed, please move to appropriate section

Not exactly sure what you're going for, but you can use clipping layers. Put the image you want to appear in the letters on a layer above and clip that layer to the text. To do this hold down the alt/option key and click between the two layers. You can then use your move tool on the image layer to get it positioned or you can transform it to appear through the letters as you want.

Other than that, maybe you are looking for a font? or want to design one?

If this isn't what you want to know, please describe what you need a little differently.

hmmmmm.......to make it more clear its like e.g write ABDULW87, now each letter is a building (like apartment blocks) and then edges, windows, walls are damaged maybe cracks in them. can that be done using the method you described.

Also maybe made 3d but that is not important.

dataflowthanks for the link, its partially what i want but i want buildings in shape of english letters. basically i wanted to create a logo for battlefield like the buildings used in it and how they are partially destroyed, same buildings but letter shaped.

can that be done, i know its unusual but should be a hell lot of fun

Here is what I was describing. In this example, the letters are typed and one image is clipped but you can make single letters and clip a separate image to each. Or any combination in between. And once you have your images lined up you can merge (and rsterize) and cut and move them as you need.

actually i was thinking letters made out of buildings, not pictures behind the text but maybe i can use some filters to make them look a little cartoonish and maybe use the 3D transformation tool thingy to get where i want, what do you think.

this would be alot easier in a 3d app i know that doesnt help much

yeah 3D app would give me almost exactly what i want, hey actually i have solidworks as well and have worked on it, maybe i can work something up. thanks for the hint. didnt thought from that angle.

sounds like you're going in the right direction. I think we sometimes look too much for an automatic way to produce what's in our heads. I know I spend a lot of time looking for stock images to supplement mine when maybe I could draw what I want. Anyway, it sounds to me like some of what you want to create needs to be built, whether it is out of pieces of building images or totally created. Anyway, good luck with that.

I hope you'll come back and show us your results and share how you resolved your problem making them! Or for that matter, come back while you're making them if you need to discuss more.
