How to create a text layer on top an existing text layer without editing the existing layer?

Hi folks,

I'm trying to create a text layer on top of an existing text layer, but whenever I use the text tool and attempt to drag-create my new text layer it instead attempts to edit the layer under it. I've got the layer under it locked, but it still tries to edit it.

How can I draw a new text layer on top of an existing text layer without causing the text tool to edit the existing text layer? Surely there's some hotkey combo to allow this?

Thanks!

you could make the text invissible and then make new text
or make the new tekst somewhere else in the image and move it afterwards

Select the text layer (highlight it), press and hold the ctrl key while moving the text where you want it.

Hello and welcome to PSG.

This makes no sense to me at all. Make sure the layer you want to work on is selected (highlighted)! If you have two text layers, you can only work with one layer at a time, the highlighted layer. If you are using the Type Tool and the new layer is selected (highlighted), you can click and drag out a new text box without affecting the text layer below. I don't think I'm understanding the problem. Can you post a screen shot?
