How to cartoonize?

Hello!

My name is Simon and I'm fairly new to Photoshop and Illustrator but I have both of them. Basically, I have an image that a printing company "cartoonized" for me to minimize the amount of colors used. I'm attaching the image before it was cartoonized and after. I'm just wondering if anyone has any idea how cartoonize like this company did? I have looked up "how to cartoonize" but I can't find anything that teaches me how to make it look as "cartoon-like" as this image. If anyone could help me that would be awesome.

Thanks!
-Simon

The first step in this process is a threshold adjustment which you will find under image or layer>adjustments. I like using layer adjustments because they are "nondestructive." In other words you can make changes whenever you want (unlike using the image menu). Here is what the threshold adj. looks like. Compare that with the black lines in your result.

Thanks, that definitely helps. One thing I'm having an issue with though, the background in yours is white with all the scuff marks, mine goes all black, just wondering if you know how to change that? thanks! (I'm attaching a photo for reference)

Also, another thing I can't seem to figure out is the "Replace Color" function. When I try to replace a color, it never replaces it with the color that I select. I'm attaching a screenshot for reference. As you see in the screenshot, I'm trying to make all the whites red but it's turning them gray. If anyone knows what I'm doing wrong that would be great as well. Thanks!
