How to batch trim same portion on multiple images

Hey everyone; been trying to figure this out for some time now and can't seem to figure it out.

I have several hundred images of different lengths but same width. I would like to remove the top 2 inches from the top, bottom 3.75 inches from the bottom, and 2.4 inches from both left and right and do this as a batch process.

I played around with the automate feature in PS and it does not seem to work on images of different sizes.

If someone can please help with some suggestions I would appreciate it.

thank you
dan

I gave this a lot of thought and it can be done with an action. I tested this and it does work for me.

Make a new blank file the same size as the largest image. Make four layers, on each layer make a rectangle for each side in the dimension you want to remove and fill it with a color. (top, bottom, right side, left side) Doesn't matter where the rectangle is placed on this file.

Name and save the file as a psd. (I called it crop.psd) Close the file.

Open one of the target images.

Start recording a new action as follows:

Open the crop.psd you just created
highlight the bottom rectangle layer, select all-copy-deselect

Paste the selection in the target image
highlight that layer and the background layer and align to the bottom

Go back to the crop.psd and repeat the copy/paste process on the target image for each side (top-right-left)
align each with the background layer to the correct side (top-right-left)

Close crop.psd

On the target image combine all the pasted layers into a single layer.
Ctrl+click the combined rectangle layer to make a selection, then invert the selection.
From the menu bar Image - crop.

Flatten the target image.

Stop recording.

Thanks for your reply to this. I can't seem to replicate what you're saying to do. I followed your instructions; however after pasting the bottom layer to the target image and then moving it on the "largest image", doing it on smaller images will bring that bottom layer off the screen and then the rest of the actions will just not work together. Is there a way to tell PS to automatically go down as low as possible in the target image that is still visible. Let me know. Thanks again for your help.

I can only tell
you how I did it. I mentioned the placement on the copy.psd wasn't important,
but perhaps it is somewhat. I left the rectangles toward the middle of each
layer on the copy.psd file. Then when I copied to the target image I aligned
with the background layer for each side, one by one.

I did get it to work
on various sized images doing it this way.

Good luck...
