How to achieve this text effect?

Could someone please help achieve the text effect as shown on this picture:

thanks for the tutorial looks good but are there some specific steps for this exact type of glow that i need to know?

I am going through the tutorial as we speak

when i use the outer glow it's usually one color, this one starts from white and goes to purple.. i will give it a shot and let u know if i have any problems

Make second copy of the original text and hide it (click on the eye). Now try stroking the text with white and vary the size to your liking, add a blurr, then add your outer glow. Now drag the second copy of the original text to the top. That should give you a crisp clean text with the white to purple glow.
