How is this achieved in Photoshop? Photo to Painting Type Effect.

Hi Everyone,

I was busy looking for a parallax WordPress theme when I came across one demo that uses some amazing images that looks like it could be applied normal photos to create a very specific paint type effect. I would love to be able to do the same. I tried to Google it but I have no idea what I would call this specific type of effect.

I cannot post links yet but I did a screenshot of part of the page that shows what I mean. It's the part on the image with the waves, beach, etc. This theme uses multiple such images all using the same effect.

I just played around with this filter a bit and results are great. Will have to play around with the best settings though. Think I will use the original image next to the altered one so I can visually match them to determine the settings (or as close as I can get). I also tested applying a slight blur to some images and it seems to soften the overall effect nicely.

I think it's a nice way to turn already beautiful stock images into something more visually unique. Will use this on my next project.
