How do you think this graphic was created?

I have a client who wants me to change photographs of different animals (iguana, parrot, etc) into graphics in the same style as the following image:

How do you suppose whomever made this went about creating it? Normally I'd just ask her to maybe change the style a bit (which I may do anyway for a few proofs for her) but she's very set on this style.

Use the lasso tool to select the portion of the image you want to colorize

Open Hue/Adjustment dialog box

Click COLORIZE and adjust the sliders until you get the effect you like.

You will need to do this for each color.
