I look at the tutorials and they have so many little options and stuff you change that I have no idea how you could see that by doing that stuff you could get what you want.

So 2 questions

1. Does getting those effects you want take a lot of time

2. Do you get good at photoshop just by doing tutorials and tinkering untill you kindof learn what all the effects do?

a

1. well that depends on how good you are =)
2. yepp its an good start and the when you feel like you are starting to master all the diferent styles then you can start making your own stuff.

Rock on

Adam by learning from others it can only make you better at what you are doing - unless of course you pick up their bad habits! [sly] he he he

then experimenting and practise both go a long way on that learning curve and eventually you develop your own style and before you know it your doing your own stuff and people are learning from you :}

Three words for you Adam... ;)

EXPERIMENT :)
EXPERIMENT :)
EXPERIMENT :)

Seriously, I've been using PS almost steadily for close to a year. Every day, I make it a point to "learn something new". Sometimes, this entails working my way through a tutorial and at other times, it means picking up one of the "challenges" that get thrown around here. :) Both scenarios are always great fun! :) But, the bottom line is, you stay at it, you keep at it and you EXPERIMENT with every tool, new technique, filter, etc. ;) ;) ;)

And yes, sometimes you just don't have the time... then you 'bookmark' and place the things that you don't have time for at the moment, into a "to do" folder so that you can go back to it when you do have the time. :D

You just keep playing with ideas and trying out the different tools. I found the Adobe manual a bit dull so I got the Photoshop Bible (number 4, I started with Photoshop 4) and worked on the ideas there.
Sometimes - if not often - you hit on happy results by chance; especially when you try a tutorial in a magazine and it goes wrong!

wbiss is right.... experiment. That, and reading tutorials are the best ways to getting good at photoshop.... oh yeah, and theres PSG [excited]

it doesn't matter how much I read, I only learn well, by trying, or better yet, by having someone actually show me how to do something.

I still stink at Channels, haven't a clue how to use them properly, yet I know that if I did know anything about them, it'd help me out quite a bit more.

No prob, Adam and ricib! :righton:

The best PS resource you can find is virtually right under your nose. This forum and The Keeper's website deserve much credit for helping me develop my skills in PS, even though I've only been part of the family for less than a year.

You can also use your good friend Google to find a plethora of PS tuts on the web. I typed in photoshop channels tuts and got quite a few hits.

One thing that really helps you to learn is to jump in on challenges in the Campfire Section and be sure to check out the Inside Track forum too. Gare is an awesome teacher!

Hope this helps you out.

experiment endlessly. Eventually, you will think you can do a CTRL-Z in everyday life.

Damn, I burnt the toast! No big deal, I can undo(DOH!!!).

ROFL!!! :bustagut: :bustagut: :bustagut: :bustagut: :bustagut:

Confessions of a Phososhopaholic! I've actually walked into a room that was dimly lit and told my wife that it needed a "levels adjustment".

I do that all the time when sketching with a pencil, that and sometimes thinking I can just edit copy and paste and that I dont have to sketch the other side of a face or something [stuned] [doh] [confused]

how? addiction, then, it's a matter of time, commitment, and crazyness (as you can see)

Welcome to PSG, AL!

It's indeed another friendly place, and it will be even friendlier with you!
Let me introduce you to the gang... Al is a very helpful and talented person I met at Computer Arts forum... he helped a member that had trouble with my tutorial, and was kind enough to tell me that he was doing so he joined PST not so long ago, but he is already very helpful :} !!

I know you will feel at home here too, Mark's place is great !

Just introduced myself on the New Users, Pierre. Everyone seems tied up with the latest challenge so decided to go walkabout.
I won't say a word about your little Freudian faux pas. [shhh] :D :D
Had a good hoot tho'.

Cheers Al
