Sorry, not the best title in the world but I don't know how to describe it.

I have a photo I'd like to touch up. I would like to be able to touch up the grass seperately to the weeds around the water. I want the grass greener and the weeds to be browner. I have tried selecting the grass but I always get weeds and vice versa, it's just so difficult. What would be the best way to select the grass and weeds seperately?

I have attached an image, please help! :)

Thanks guys. :)

create a new layer put the blending mode to color and paint over it in whatever color you want.

And do tell, why in the world would you want to do this rather than just find a photo that has real color? Your post sounds like it comes from a troll.

I am not a troll.

I am into photography and have recently bought a new camera, I have been experimenting with night photography and playing with manual settings etc. If I brighten up this image I know it will turn out really good. I have done most of it, it is just this grass area because like I said in the original post, I find it difficult to select the grass without the weeds and vice versa etc.

I started posting on this site because it seemed helpful. As said in my original post I am not all that familar with photoshop, I'm learning. I am posting for advice and for help and if I'm going to be branded as a troll then I will look elsewhere.

Thanks Hoggle. I tried creating a new layer and using the colour replacement tool which I guess is similar to what you've done? I really want this photo to look good at the end of it, I'm using this photo really as a project because I've learnt quite a bit about photoshop through this. You've only seen a snipet, but I know at the end it will look great.

I would use hue/sat adjustment layer's.. the more you use for each color would allow you to have more shades of color I have only used three I would suggest two tones of color for the reeds and grass and maybe some levels adjustments too.

I hope you find what I said helpful, feel free to inbox me if you have any questions!

Also if your shooting night, use a longer exposure w/tripod to let more light in on the shot's. If that doesn't work try shooting at dusk instead of night for some awesome shot's!

Hoogle I tried doing what you suggested and I couldn't get it to look 'realistic', it's so hard to paint the weeds, I miss some and then you can tell it's been photoshopped.

Sammy, could you please explain further how you did that? I've not used saturation layers before.... It looks like something that could work.

I'll show you what it is. I have edited and pretty much done most of it except the grass area. However when I did color the grass and the reeds I missed out a part which has changed to a blue colour, you can see from one of my attachments. I have resized the image to be able to put as an attachment but if you zoom in you will see it. If I could edit the blue and make it blend in with the colour of the grass and the weeds it would be so much easier for me and the photo would be complete.

I then tried a new approach. I had the original photograph (which is what I attached in my first post), I copy/pasted the grass section into a new layer on my edited image, to basically work from scratch in that area. I can erase the parts I don't need at the end.

Either way and I will be happy. I just want to be able to add the colour to this part and it will be done. :)

The grass under the bridge is fine, I managed that, but for some reason I am really struggling with the main part at the front of the photo - if I could get the colour of the weeds to sort of match it would be fantastic.

If anyone has any tips, I'd really appreciate it. I'd love to be able to complete this photo!! :)blue edges.jpgoriginal layer.jpg
