Illustrator How do I outline the knee in this image?

Does anyone know how I could draw a simple black outline around the knee in this picture?

Do you mean shadow?

well you have several options you can use the pen tool with a stroke for a crisp straight effect or you can use the Blob brush that pretty much works like a paintbrush but in vector format and clean edges for a free hand approach

Here's one way...

Make a selection of the knee plus maybe a bit more of the leg...

With the selection still live make a new blank layer.

Go Edit/Stroke...........make the colour black and select Outside as the location. Type in 3 or 4 pixels and hit Ok.

Choose the Eraser from the toolbar and rub out the section of the black line that you don't want.

Flatten the image and save.
