Hi, have access to loads of early real estate Posters (Australian) and am retounching tme as I can. but early priner methods and artists (1890's) had a problem making fine rulled lines (hatched) to fill in areas. (also folds when scanned, fading, blotchy Inks and staines, etc have turned retouching these ares into a nightmare. Sometimes a day an image. with over a thousand such posters, this is impracticle. going crosseyed)

I was hoping to create a overlay screed/line/hatched area that I could then simply drop in as a layer, drop the transparency, erase the areas not needed, then color (or not as need be) the screen/rulling.

have racked my brains for a reliable method to make such a screen, as many of these images dont have enough are of reliable rulling to use.

(the highy magnified centre area shows what happened when some 'junk' and ink blobs got onto the original printers plate.)

Would anyone have a clue.?
regards, Sandy

Hello and welcome to PSG.

I'm not sure I'm following you at all but you can easily replace the ruled lines using custom made pattern overlay in layer styles.

wow. thanks. you have put me on another track. will give it a try. thanks again. regards, Sandy

that is what I am trying to Achieve. I can then add some slight noise etc. to look more original, but getting to te stage above is great.

I can then cutthough th eunderlying black text...

regards, Sandy.

(I have spent hours usingthe clone tool, but the problem is, in that era, the special Rulling machines, could only do small areas, and so the actual agnles of the rullings vary over the entire poster area...

I can then cutthough th eunderlying black text...
Not sure what you mean by the term "cut out"....................but let me add, don't cut out anything, just use a layer mask.
Lower the layers opacity so you can see the text, then use the Brush Tool and the Polygonal Lasso Tool set to black on th layer mask to reveal the text, raise the opacity when your done.
