How do I identify font type?

Sometime I will take magazine covers or advertisements and insert my grandchildrens pictures. I also like to alter the text but matching the font type is a real challenge. The best I've been able to do is a trial and error approach. The fant samples in photoshop CC are small and limited in examples, hard to match to an existing type. Is there some way to identify a font type other than the tedious method of experience
