How do I handle text?

Hey there, i recently started doing freelance print work after quitting a job where I did photo retouching in photoshop. I've completed a few projects but I am starting to worry that I am not properly preparing my documents for print. I've done a fair amount of research and I understand that I really need to use Indesign or Quark for preparing fonts but I do not currently have access to these programs. Is rasterizing text an appropriate way to prepare text for printing or do I have to use another program? If I cannot use photoshop to prepare my final copy then I have to stop doing freelance print work and I don't want to stop! Any advice? Thanks!!

One thing you can do is to create a duplicate layer of the "Type" layer...hide the original "Type" layer...and THEN rasterize the duplicate. That way if you need to go back and make any additional changes to the PSD, then you can always go back to the "Type" layer to adjust.

When I did some print work for a brochure I created, using solely Photoshop did not make any difference in clarity. Also, when creating text boxes to type in...you can gain more control in the alignment.
