Hi, rebel_witha_cause!
I'm a newbie in Photoshop. But if I had to do such rings, I'd prepare on a single layer a circle with radial gradient overlay (alpha=0 inside the most part of a circle, then (color=red, alpha=100), (color=green, alpha=100)... alpha=0 again).
Something like the attachment ^)

You sould copy the layer, change proportions of a circle and place it in any place.

Maybe this is not the best way. But the way :)

And one more thing. If you draw a circle and then overlay it with radial gradient, you can avoid first solid fill in Blending Options of this layer. Make the Fill Opacity to 0.

thanks! but how do i do that? i don't see a way to change my gradients... (sorry i'm so clueless...haha!)

rebel_witha_cause, Hi again! :)
The steps:
1) Draw a circle on a layer with solid fill (say, white).
2) Blending Options. Set radial gradient fill. The fill example is in attachment. Red numbers are the values for Opacity.
3) Blending Options. Set Fill Opacity for this layer in 0.

To change standart gradient to your special one you should click on small squares(see the gradient strip):
the squares above will change the opacity;
the squares below allow you to select colour.

An easier way to go about this: Go to 'Layer' then 'New Fill Layer'. Gradient fill. From there you can mess around with the coords and actually PREVIEW what it will look like before you hit okay to apply it to your page. Hope that helps!!!

Kim =)
