im updating my pc game file and im adding new player pictures..i need to get an alpha and a .BMP here is a sample of what i need..how would i go about doing this? when i go to add the new photos it ask for the bmp first then the alpha to lay in the background...it makes the background become transparent in the game

Hi chipper33444,

Isn't your game file also using a .BMP for the alpha channel? If so, a basic technique of going about your project would be to open the image in Photoshop and save a copy as a .BMP for your player's head shot. Then make a selection of the head and fill it with white. Inverse the selection and fill it with black. Save the result as another .BMP for your alpha channel. As techniques for making selections are extremely varied, depending on the background and subject contrasts, you would have to post a sample for more specific suggestions.

Here's a thread which addresses making selections, with tutorial links.

yes my game uses .bmp for both pictures..i have fooled around and loaded my tests into the game and they pretty much look like crapp. when the image appears it has a jagged white edge all around it and looks very poorly done. lol (cause it was) i included a sample of someone who is doing the samething as my..(updating the roster photos) i need to know how to get mine to look like this. they have a smooth white edge around it. its looks very professional and matches the photos from the game perfectly. how can i do this?

just click to enlarge photo
