Hi!

I found a nice picture, but I wonder if anybody can help me out on how to create something like that by myself.

http://www.karlstadsrugbyklubb.com (top on page)

Especially on how they created the merge between the rugbyplayers and the background(and kept the palette to shades of red/white/black).

Can anybody give me some advices ?
I've tired to play around with PS, but the result I get is not good....:(

It is a duotone image with a gradient mask to transparency, which causes the fade effect.

It's not an effect easily achievable by "playing around with PS." If you are familiar with the above descriptive terms, you should be able to do it. If not, you know what techniques and tools you need to study and learn to achieve it.

The User manual does a fair job of explaining them, and there are tutorials on the web for the effect, if you want to learn how. A web search through dogpile.com or google should turn up what you seek.

For the most part:
1. De-saturate
2. Set blending mode to Hard Light

That should give you a good start.

Looks like there is some other funky masking going on in there.

Nothing wrong in telling people that there *is* a help file, and a manual. We are here to help people stand on their own feet, which includes doing a bit of research from time to time. And to show a direction, or even offer a complete method if so needed. Mark himself also writes in his tuts for new users to check the help files.

Otoh, this being the New Users forum, I suggest (only suggest!) that we ask people to say what they tried, and where they're stuck.

Communication is difficult because we all have our vocabulary and habits of speech, and some words or expressions may well be interpreted in a completely different manner by someone else. So please don't force a discussion if you're not the person who has been targeted in the first place. Everyone has the right to contact Mark or the modsquad in case of a personal attack, and each case is taken very seriously as we try to keep things helpful and grown-up. (adult has a different meaning for you USA'ers, proving my point on communication)
