How could I split this image?

Hi. I have a image that i want to split up.. let me explain.I have a photo i took and im wanting to split the images into, lets say for example 20 separate 6x9 images. basically i want to split this one image into x amount of 6x9 photos so when printed out i will have these x amount of 6x9 images that make up the one image. I hope i have explained it enough, could anyone help me out im struggling!

Its very easy to do but the main question is.....is your original image big enough to be divided into 'x' number of '6x9' images when printed?

What are the specs of the image you want to split?

EDIT:
An image has just shown up which wasn't there before but if thats the image then you wont even get one 6x9 print out of it.

Hi tom, thanks for the reply.

The image im looking at splitting is 3000(wide)x4000(high) pixel. It was taken on my gopro. I understand that you won't be able to split it perfectly into x amount and i was only looking to make it as big as 5 or 6 6x9's going across but then im not sure how i would count them going down if you know what i mean
 
MrTom makes a good point about the resolution of the original image, but assuming that's OK, there are lots of ways to do this:

1. Use the "slice" tool in Photoshop. Google {slice tool photoshop}

2. Make the image into a PDF and then bring the image into either Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat for printing. There is a "Poster" option under the "Paper Size and Handling" section of the print menu.

3. Past the image into Excel, expand it to whatever size you want and since Excel is used to cutting up spreadsheets to be pasted together, it will have no problem for doing the same thing to your image.

4. Believe it or not, you can even do it in good old Microsoft Paint or Google {print large image multiple pages in windows}

5. There are on-line services that will do it for you: http://online.rapidresizer.com/

6. There are even specialist commercial applications that do this, but the 5 suggestions above should certainly get you started.

Still having a little trouble. I have tried to use the slice tool. i resized the image (made it a litte smaller for better quality and so i can just do 3 across) and my mistake i meant 4x6 not 6x9. This is what i got to after converting inches to pixels but its still not right, its not adding up and the sizes dont seem right, im getting quite confused by it all and ready to give up! I thought it would be simpler than i thought so split an image like this in to 18 4x6 images!

Are u trying to make a large poster on your own printer, or r u splitting it up for some other reason? If the latter, what's your ultimate goal?

Also, if u r going to tape the pages together, don't forget that most printers don't print (well) all the way to the edge of each page, and, taping them together is much easier if u allow a margin around each page. OTOH, if this is for a web page, u don't have 2 have any "margin" around each page. Then again, if it's for some other purpose, eg a huge puzzle or piece of art, one has to determine it on a case by case basis.
 
Im basically trying to split this image into 18 4x6 images digitally like shown in the screenshot. Im planning on printing these 18 or so images from a website so i need the 18 or so images digitally to upload to the website for them to print and send me
 
At this point, I'm not terribly concerned how or where you are going to have them printed, I want to know if you are going to try to tape them together to make one big, poster-sized image, or do something else with them? As I said in an earlier post, "what's your ultimate goal / use of them?".

Oh sorry, i am planning on putting them all together but im not aiming for them to all go together perfectly, I am planning on having about a cm between each image when i put them all together printed out
 
OK. Thanks. I would then suggest that u seriously consider the Adobe Reader technique I referred to in my 1st post In this thread. It really will save u a lot of time & aggravation. There is plenty of info & help files for this option available on the web.

I'm riding a train at the moment & have a shoot tonight, so more later.

I was hoping it would be easy enough of photoshop.. i would of thought it would of been anyway! I cant download anything on the computer im working with at the moment and photshop is the best i have really, im getting sick of trying!
 
Did you look at the last link I posted? That one is an on-line service. Nothing has to be installed on your computer. You run it and set all the options using nothing more than a web browser. You can even order prints directly from them. The last time I looked at the price of one poster, it was something like $10 or $15. IMHO, if your task is to get the job done (ie, not necessarily to increase your PS skills), this is an absolute no brainer.

I don't know if this will help ....


Resize your poster to 5400x7200 (18"x24").

With the slice tool, select the entire image.

Right click within the slice > DIVIDE SLICE. Divide as shown.

You've divided your image into 18 4x6 slices....

I don't know whether you require a bleed area but if you do, merely increase the canvas size with the required bleed. For instance, adding 300 pixels (1 inch) gives 150 pixels or half an inch on all sides.
 
I have/can manage to get to this which is the image divided into so many 6x4 sections but from this i need each individual slice as a separate image so i can upload each slice to the website so they can print each individual slice. Am i making sense?
