Hello, :)

Well basically I have a problem, I want to make a photo in which I put an image of my friend into a old photo of Brain Jones and Jimi Hendrix. Now I have not finished it yet and I know I need to fix the hair and the general conutor but what I dont know is how to make my photo look more "vintage" and make it look like it fits in its surroundings. Any suggestions?

Here is the photo

Cool project, it's a good start but needs some tweaking to match the background.

Post the PSD up and we can take a look, but I think you need some levels adjustments and added shadows to your friend.

The focus is also a bit off, your friend looks softer than the rest of the image. Either soften the BG image or sharpen your friend.

Plus the scale of your friend is slightly too small. Just by a gnats whisker. Maybe sharpen the image of your friend and give him more contrast, or bring the photo of Jimmy to the same softness of your friend.

very cool idea! you are on the right track thats for sure!

I agree with Gauss and Chad

The lighting is to even, and the image is too soft, overall though it's blended nicely.
I would used a curves adjustment layer to get the shadow side of his face to look darker and with more contrast.
You can use a brush in the Curves mask to bring back the lighter parts of the image.

Thanks for the replies!

And shapening and adding contrast did help a lot!

Here is the PSD version as well -> View attachment 989

Anyways here it is with the suggestions:

maybe tone down the lighting on your friend right are next to "Brain Jones", the lighting soruce is a bit off so toning it down to match is what I would say :), other than that it's looking quite good :)

Mr Magoooooooo you've done it again!!!! lol nice touch!

Something a bit like this, though you will prob want to spend a bit more time on it than what I've just done.

The fence looks huge compared to the people btw!
Nice job

Fence looks fine to me, like 7-8ft partition to separate the performers from the audience.

I think the fence is just an optical illusion, as the height size from Jimmy goes smaller towards the fence, which is the same area where the fence is at its largest in the image.

It probably would have bean a good idea to do it first as going of his second image, I don't think he quite got the jist of what I was getting at. I forget that not everyone who has photoshop, knows how to use it. After paying a fair whack for the Adobe master collection, I made sure I knew how to use most of it, maybe just spending a smaller amount on just photoshop doesn't have the same effect on some people.
