You should try using the "Bevel/Emboss" function under the "Blending Options" for the layer. You can open up the Blending Options window by right clicking on the layer, and selecting it from the drop down menu.

you could use bevel/emboss, but you could also make the background a light grey, add the black in the corner and blend it, then add the white on the top with blending..

using shading efects will make the pic look defined and clearer in my opinion.
