Horizontal background with vertical gradient problem

I'm having a problem creating a horizontally repeating background that has a vertical gradient. It's 118px high and 1px wide, but when I set it as the background image (with repeat-x), it's like the gradient disappears and it's all pretty much a flat colour. I'm saving the file as a 24bit png with an sRGB profile embedded. I've saved another section of the same banner image (that has the logo) for use on the left side of the banner, it has the same gradient section but as it's saved as a fixed width, single use image and the gradient looks fine.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what's going on with this? It's quite frustrating.

Try entering the exact x and y values for that image in your code and try different browsers.

Btw, are you sure that you're actually looking at the gradient and not a filled background with a similar color? Even better, can you post the actual code?
